Who had American Girl dolls growing up? I have two and recently I bequeathed them to my six year old daughter. When I was trying to decide what I wanted to crochet next, I stumbled upon this romper pattern and instantly knew I had to make it for my daughter to dress her dolls in.
I’ve seen numerous crochet patterns for Barbie doll clothing but that has always seemed too tedious to me. But 18-inch doll outfits are much more approachable in my opinion and if you size them up a bit, you could easily convert them to newborn clothes!
Materials I Used:
- Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Wildflower and Light Blue
- Seven (7) 1/2″ Buttons
- H8/5mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Sewing needle
- Scissors
- Stitch marker

Material Notes:
The pattern calls for six buttons for the romper front and one for the back, one for the headband and one for the purse. I used only four buttons on the romper front (because I was short two buttons after using one on the headband and one on the purse). I used a blue button on the back of the romper since no one would see it. Also, the pattern just says “small buttons” for the outfit and “large buttons” for the headband and purse. I used all the same size since I wanted my buttons to all match and it worked out just fine.
Additionally, there are sandals that go with this outfit and the pattern calls for a G6/4mm crochet hook when making them. I did that but my sandals came out too small, hence why they are not included.
Time Spent:
The individual pieces work up very quickly! All three pieces, including time to sew on buttons and weave in ends, took me 2 hours to complete. I was actually surprised at how fast these came out since I am not the quickest crocheter!
Measurements:
The romper and headband are designed to fit an 18-inch doll. They fit true to size. The purse is 3.5 inches tall, not including the handle and 4 inches wide.
Gauge:
There was no gauge given for this pattern, however, my swatch is 14 rows and 14 half double crochet stitches equals a 4 by 4 inch square.
Pattern Notes:
This pattern was quite easy and everything worked out perfectly. The only issue I came across was when I tried to make the sandals (which you can see I gave up on). As mentioned above, those use a smaller hook than the rest of the outfit and between that and my tension, I couldn’t get them to fit. I haven’t had a chance to go back and try them again but I will!
This would be so cute to make a matching outfit for child and doll!

Introduction to Public Speaking
Public speaking is the process or act of performing a speech to a live audience. It involves the use of words, physical delivery, and visual or audio aids to inform, persuade, or entertain a group of people. Effective public speaking requires clear organization, as disorganized speeches are unlikely to be understood or perceived as reliable or credible by the audience . Additionally, structuring a speech involves an introduction, body, and conclusion. The conclusion is the last opportunity to motivate listeners and should end strongly with an impact statement or a call to action .
Speech Anxiety
Anxiety in public speaking can occur at different stages: pre-speech, during-speech, and post-speech. Strategies to manage pre-speech anxiety include having a strategy to manage anxiety during the wait time before the speech. During the speech, anxiety can spike if a mistake is made but can decrease if the audience reacts positively. Post-speech anxiety is often forgotten, as speakers may have negative self-talk after the speech, such as feeling they did terrible or that the audience hated the speech .
Assessment in Public Speaking
In the context of public speaking, assessment can involve practices such as giving students extended time to think about questions posed, allowing them to discuss their ideas in pairs before responding, and not labeling answers as right or wrong. This approach aims to open up discussions that help expose and explore students' assumptions and reasoning, while also making wrong answers useful input for learning .
These concepts provide a foundational understanding of public speaking, including structuring speeches, managing speech anxiety, and assessing public speaking skills.
